Track UPSC progress as a pattern, not a percentage

A single mock-test score tells you what happened once. A useful UPSC progress tracker shows what keeps happening across subjects, topics and weeks—so improvement and neglect are both visible.

Short answerTrack three layers together: current performance, repeated topic-level patterns and consistency over time. UPSC Garden represents those layers as growing or weakening subject gardens.
A path showing preparation growth from seed to a mature tree
Progress is a sequence of evidence, not one dramatic leap.

What should you measure?

More data is not automatically better. A compact tracker should help you distinguish knowledge gaps from avoidable mistakes and temporary variation.

Why use a garden?

Visual metaphors work when they compress information without hiding it. Healthy plants can signal sustained strength; wilting plants can call attention to weakness or neglect. The aim is faster recognition, followed by a more detailed topic view when needed.

The garden is a decision interface—not a scientific measurement by itself. Always inspect the underlying tests and explanations before changing your study plan.

A weekly tracking routine

  1. Review the last seven days of tests, not only the latest score.
  2. Identify two recurring weak topics and one improving topic.
  3. Choose a limited revision block for the weak topics.
  4. Retest after revision and record whether the pattern changed.
